The Mafalda Circuit in Buenos Aires

18 August 2026

The character created by Quino in the 1960s, which achieved global fame and whose stories were published in thirty languages, will have an immersive version in October, featuring an experience for all ages that includes 360° projections with surround sound.

Beyond this news, the streets of the city remember Mafalda and her world through a series of urban landmarks that comic fans walk through, enjoy, and share on social media when visiting Buenos Aires.

Mafalda Inmersiva

The exhibition integrates high-resolution video mapping, 360° projections with specialized surround sound, multi-user virtual reality—a simultaneous real-time experience for multiple visitors—interactive touch screens, volumetric sculptures of iconic characters, and original music composed especially for the show.

The 2D animations were created by an international multidisciplinary team based in Argentina, Spain, and England, faithfully respecting Quino's original lines and texts. Each comic strip gains movement without losing a single line of its essence.

Where?

Centro Cultural Recoleta, Junín 1930. Starting in October. Tuesday to Friday from 12 pm to 9 pm. Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 11 am to 9 pm.

Casa de Mafalda

The recognizable building where Mafalda lived with her family is actually the building where cartoonist Joaquín Salvador Lavado (Quino) lived while creating the famous comic strip in 1964, which is why it is recognized as the home and inspiration for the character. A plaque on the facade commemorates this fact.

Where?

Chile 371, on the border between the neighborhoods of San Telmo and Monserrat.

Estatua de Mafalda

The most requested photo by Mafalda fans is her statue in San Telmo, which shows her sitting on a park bench where visitors can pose next to her. This corner is the starting point of an outdoor circuit that pays tribute to great characters of Argentine comics—such as Isidoro Cañones, Clemente, and Patoruzú, among others—in what is known as the Paseo de la Historieta.

Where?

Corner of Chile and Defensa, in the neighborhood of San Telmo.

Tienda Mafalda

There is no "official store" for Mafalda, but Argentina Gifts, a shop located a few steps from Quino's house and the statue, is the one that concentrates the largest amount of authorized licensed products to take home a souvenir of the city.

Almacén Don Manolo

One of the most mentioned places in the comic strip is the grocery store owned by Manolito’s father, who used to paint the neighborhood walls with the advertising slogan "Almacén Don Manolo vende baratísimo". The shop in the strip is inspired by a real one, founded in 1907 and located a few meters from Quino's house. Currently, the place is decorated with motifs referencing the comic strip.

Plaza Mafalda

This prominent public green space, located in the neighborhood of Colegiales, pays tribute to the iconic philosopher girl of Argentine comics and her creator, the graphic humorist Quino, who attended its inauguration in 1995.

The square is divided into sectors named after the different characters in the comic strip. In this way, you can walk along "Pasaje Manolito" or rest in the space dedicated to "Susanita". There are murals and illustrations on the walls and internal passages, painted by local artists depicting classic vignettes from the comic.

Where?

Space bounded by Conde, Santos Dumont, Concepción Arenal, and Martínez streets, in the neighborhood of Colegiales.

Walking this circuit is much more than a tour of Buenos Aires. It is an opportunity to enter Quino's endearing universe and verify that, more than half a century after its creation, Mafalda's lucid, ironic, and tender perspective remains as relevant as ever on the corners that saw her birth.
