Purple Streets, Shows, and Whales: 6 Spring Experiences in Argentina for This 2022
In the season when everything becomes more colourful, Argentina offers experiences that only enhance that brightness. Music, culture, landscapes, and adventure are intertwined, resulting in more than tempting tourist offers.
We start leaving behind the quick sunsets and cold nights to give way to the time of year when everything is dyed in colour. Spring, the season of flowers and beers outdoors, is just around the corner, and the vibes of the sun and warmth are sensed everywhere in Argentina. Some have natural tinges, others, musical and cultural touches, but everyone agrees on the same thing: on 21st September, the country with the End of the World flourishes again and invades the atmosphere with amazing experiences.
1) Watching Marine Animals in Puerto Madryn, Chubut
High season for one of the most fascinating phenomena of the world of fauna! Every year, from July to December, the coasts of Puerto Madryn become the ideal home for thousands of aquatic mammals. The southern right whales arrive for the mating season, turning the visit into the perfect excuse to dazzle us with their choreographies intertwined among the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The cetaceans can be up to 16 metres, and manage to make our hearts pump fast with their moves up close to the boats full of tourists who delve into an all-sense adventure. In addition to the boat experience, you can also enjoy the show from afar, especially on the beaches of El Doradillo and Las Canteras.
Mind you, whales are just the tip of the iceberg. Magellanic penguins, dolphins, sea lions, and even killer whales join the list of marine animals. These VIP guests also have their own tricks to hypnotise tourists. The most popular penguin colonies are those of Punta Tombo and Valdés Peninsula, home to the world’s largest colonies of this species. The wooden walkways built by humans trace an impeccable route to observe them from a distance, without invading their space, but allowing us to get close enough to appreciate their funny walk and fur.
How to double down for adventurous travellers? Very simple: in Chubut, you can also practise snorkelling or kayaking with sea lions. An experience to be in contact with animals in the first person.
2) Blooming Jacarandas in Buenos Aires
The capital of Argentina also gains its own spring charm with purple shades. The Buenos Aires’ typical trees captivate the eyes of the locals and are the symbol that officially inaugurates the flower season. They decorate avenues, get prominence in the parks, and paint pavements upon the fall of their typical sprouts. They contrast with the typical roads of the city, adding the right and necessary sparkle of lilac that lives up the city and slows down its daily fast pace.
The tour to discover the jacarandas begins on the iconic Avenida 9 de Julio, the world’s widest avenue and home to one of the most representative monuments in Argentina: Obelisco. The white pencil-shaped monument marks the centre of Buenos Aires life, featuring most of the photographs of the capital. The contrasts among the buildings, the colourful trees, and the intense blue sky are worth endless shots with the camera lens.
Other places to admire the coloured palette are Avenida del Libertador, Avenida Figueroa Alcorta, Avenida Cabildo and parks, such as the Buenos Aires Botanical Garden.
3) Shows and International Music Festivals in Buenos Aires
November also begins with Latin music on hoardings: Bad Bunny performs on the 4th and 5th at the José Amalfitani Stadium. On 10th November, Englishman Liam Gallagher, one of the founding brothers of Oasis, shows his solo version at Movistar Arena. On the 12th, the same place puts Canadian star Michael Bublé in the spotlight, and ten days later, Movistar Arena receives the Spanish artist leading playlists C Tangana. The icing on the cake? One of the sensations of the moment: songwriter Harry Styles brings his Love on Tour 2022 to the Antonio Vespucio Liberti Monumental Stadium, with two sold-out dates.
4) Multicoloured Fields in Trevelín, Chubut
Shades of pink, yellow, white, violet, and red perfectly combine in a field surrounded by mountains in the province of Chubut. The context is superb because, as if it weren’t enough, the intense blue of the sky adds to the rainbow of colours and makes the scenery even more stunning. The spring in Trevelín is one of the greatest Argentinian musts: the flowering season is in October, when tulips invade people’s eyes. Two million flowers are grouped in rows of different shades on Route 259, 13 kilometres from Trevelin’s centre (in the Nant Natural Protected Area). The result? A multicoloured portrait that will be etched in your memory.
5) Getaway to Mendoza, the Wine Land
Mendoza is always present in all itineraries. It is fascinating in every month of the year, with amazing activities and proposals, from adventure tourism to gastronomy, and mountains in the horizon, only improving the painting. Yet, is there a better time than spring to enhance the immersive experiences it offers? The experiences of indulging with wines, tasting dishes in steps, walking along vineyards, and taking siestas embraced by the Andes Mountains. The experiences that make thousands of travellers fall in love every year. The experiences that have positioned Mendoza among the world’s best wine cities with flying colours.
