5 Destinations of Argentina recommended by Brazilian Digital Nomads

Three Instagram accounts of Brazilian influencers chose Patagonia’s mountains and lakes for their most recent trip. And now, they will tell us about their favourite destinations and the most beautiful places they have discovered while travelling.

They have thousands of followers on Instagram, and the same travelling passion brought them together here. Some have quit their jobs to embark on the most beautiful adventure ever: following secret routes on neighbouring lands. Others carry their jobs along and move around as they work, one of the great current nomadic trends. Yet, what matters here today is that all of them are part of a special chapter in the travel book of Argentina; they are tourists who experienced our country in the flesh and fell madly in love with local spots. Route 40 takes the leading role (since it is the longest in the country and crosses 11 provinces, offering amazing panoramic views), along with one of the great Argentinian gems, Patagonia.

Lu and Rô met while studying at the Economy university. Today, they are content creators and finance professors, leading a travel Instagram account that has everything it takes to venture down uncharted paths. With 32.2k followers on Instagram, as @pazamoreviagem, they share itineraries and encourage users to be guided by their hearts and venture themselves. “What we liked the most about Argentina was the hospitality of its people,” they claim as they recall their four-month trip around our territory.

Bina and Edu (from the south of Brazil) decided to incorporate new globetrotting members: two chihuahuas who won’t set apart from them and step on every land their human friends do. Los Bidus (25.3k followers on Instagram) visited Argentina for the first time in 2019, on a 15-day trip that changed their lives. When they got back to Brazil, they quit their jobs, packed their things in a van, and hit the road. Life has put them back in that magical place that had once swept them off their feet and so far, they have been travelling for five months from Corrientes to the south, and very soon from Patagonia to the north along Route 40. They admit, “We are in love with Argentina. Apart from its landscapes and tourist attractions, we love the joy, hospitality, and heart of Argentinians, without leaving the delicious asados and wines aside.”

Gabriela and Vinicius met at a nightclub in Juiz de Fora, their hometown. It was 2017, and music joined two souls that were never again separated. He works on the joint project Sem Fronteiras, which already has more than 18k followers on Instagram. She is Executive Secretary of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, but she has asked for an unpaid leave to fulfil her dream. The result was an exciting journey through Patagonia. In 2019, they bumped into a couple travelling through Argentina and Chile and learned that living in a campervan was something feasible. The rest was history: they built their own motorhome and prepared to hit the road in 2020, arriving in the country in October. “People are very polite and friendly. The landscapes are incredibly beautiful and different from those of Brazil,” they tell us about the personality of Argentinians.

What are the destinations that left a mark on these Brazilian globetrotters’ hearts?

1. Villa Pehuenia, Neuquén

A mountain village packed with glacial lakes, white-sand beaches, and native coniferous forests. Located 15 kilometres from the border with Chile, its calm surroundings and film-like landscapes make it a must in Neuquén. Lu and Rô say, “We loved the whole region around Villa Pehuenia, so we recommend visiting it.” Skiing in winter, hiking, trekking, diving, mountain biking, and kayaking are some of the activities this city offers.

2. El Bolsón, Rio Negro

The portrait depicts crystal-clear waters, lots of green areas, and mountains embracing those who step on this magical land. The Cerro Amigo offers beautiful panoramic views of the city, as stunning as those of Río Azul viewpoint. The guys from @pazamoreviagem assure, “We discovered the pool-like waters of the Manso River, near El Bolsón. Incredible!”. Obviously: this turquoise water circle, surrounded by more water and lush vegetation, rises in a purely peaceful atmosphere and offers the perfect alternative for a quick dip.

For a complete experience, you have to try the local sweets and the typical craft beer of the area. Souvenir fans will also have their reward in the form of craftwork pieces.

3. El Chaltén and El Calafate, Santa Cruz

The so-called national capital of trekking got its nickname thanks to its perfectly marked out trails for restless travellers and walking lovers. There’s nothing like climbing mountains surrounded by stunning views —a good pair of trainers and a backpack never sounded so good! El Chaltén offers deep silence within a superb environment, revealing the force of nature. What trails are musts? The Laguna de los Tres, the Loma del Pliegue Tumbado and, if you’ve got the energy but little time, the Laguna Torre also meets the landscape + excursion requirement.

Is there any other must in this Patagonian province? The home of the thousand-year-old ice masses that will give you goosebumps. El Calafate is a land of glaciers, and seeing its wonders means coming into direct contact with Mother Earth. The star of the region is the Perito Moreno Glacier, the one that excites with its annual calving and wears the colours of our flag that shine under the sun’s rays all year round.

4. Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego

The ends of the world hold a mystery that pumps adrenaline even in the most sceptical person. Ushuaia bears the title of the southernmost city on the planet with honours, deriving in the mystique of its settings and natural wonders. Perhaps that is why all the couples pointed to this place on the map. For its viewpoints, flora and fauna, its lakes and lagoons, its iconic Les Éclaireurs lighthouse in the waters of the Beagle Channel, or the End of the World Train... Tierra del Fuego gathers all the necessary ingredients for the recipe of joy.

5. Punta Tombo, Chubut

Hey, you, penguin fan! You have just found your place in the world. And they have too. Punta Tombo is home to the world’s largest continental colony of Magellanic penguins, with thousands of specimens living on its shores. Their funny walk can be seen from the walkways designed to watch them from a distance. This reserve in Chubut is a visual delight in high season: these animals arrive in September to nest and take care of their chicks until April, when they return to the Atlantic to continue their journey along with their chicks that already know how to swim.
