The best time of year to see tulips in Argentina

14 September 2026

September and October are the two months when Patagonia unveils its blooming tulip fields — a natural spectacle that combines mountains, Welsh history, and agritourism.

Every spring, Patagonia turns red, yellow, purple, and white thanks to the tulip fields blooming at the foot of the Andes. It's one of the most sought-after sights for anyone visiting Chubut at this time of year, and there are more and more ways to enjoy it: from the historic Trevelin Tulip Field to newer options such as Tulipanes de Tir Halen. It's also one of the most beautiful flowers to discover in Argentina during bloom season.

Tulip Field in Trevelin, Chubut

Located just 14 kilometers from downtown Trevelin, with access from National Route 259, this is one of Patagonia's most visited landscapes. The field, developed and cared for by the Ledesma family, brings together more than a million tulips blooming at once, offering an unforgettable postcard for visitors to the region.

  • The visiting season begins on October 7.
  • The field reaches full bloom between October 15 and 30.
  • You can get there by private vehicle via Route 259, or with local agencies that offer the excursion.

The field's colors stand out against the spring sky and the snow-capped peaks still visible on the horizon, making this an unmissable visual and sensory experience — much like the one described in this piece on reasons to visit Chubut in spring.

Tulipanes de Tir Halen: an earlier bloom

A growing alternative is Tulipanes de Tir Halen, a field located in the town of 28 de Julio, in the Lower Chubut River Valley. Unlike Trevelin, blooming starts earlier here — from September 15 — extending Patagonia's tulip season to nearly two full months.

How to get there

  • To Trevelin: there are flights from Buenos Aires (Aeroparque) to Esquel Airport (EQS). From there, it's a little over 30 minutes by car or shuttle to Trevelin.
  • To 28 de Julio (Lower Chubut River Valley): there are flights of about two hours to Trelew Airport (REL), and from there, about 60 kilometers along National Route 25.

Where to stay

In Trevelin, known for its Welsh heritage, accommodation options range from mountain cabins and inns to rural and wine-tourism experiences along Route 259, ideal for combining a visit to the tulip fields with other excursions in the area. In 28 de Julio and the Lower Chubut River Valley, options are more limited and rural in style, so it's worth booking ahead during bloom season.

How to arrange a visit

The fields are open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are purchased directly on site.
