Where Can You See the Best Sunsets in Buenos Aires?

As the sun goes down, perfect places for the golden hour find their way through orange skies. And as a matter of fact, sunsets in Buenos Aires are as exceptional as those beach sunsets around the world. Keep on reading to discover your next favourite spot in Buenos Aires.

Drink or mate in hand, amazing views of the tango’s capital, and a sky ideal for tons of photographs: an idyllic setting that takes place daily as the sun marks the end of the working day, showing unique hues painted in the sky. Buenos Aires always has every angle covered, so it is not surprising that there are spots across the city that provide the perfect setting for enjoying the sunset. Sometimes height is important; but since Argentina can deal with everything, sunsets also find their charm among green areas, bridges, and buildings. These are some of the most magical places to enjoy the sunsets the best way.

Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve

There are 350 hectares of an intense green just a few minutes from the cement of Puerto Madero, one of the quaintest neighbourhoods in the city. This protected area in the city of Buenos Aires used to be the local beach resort from 1918 to 1950, where inhabitants used to go to cool off on the banks of the Río de la Plata river. Over the years, nature pushed its way and began to trace a unique route packed with vegetation and animals. Today, it is an ideal place for walking and playing sports. What is the unforgettable view? Late in the afternoon, when the sun hides between the distant buildings, and the characteristic orange colour of the twilight can be seen framed by trees and branches.

Fundación PROA Terrace

It is a contemporary art centre that, apart from exhibiting talent from the 20th and 21st centuries, also organises courses, seminars, conferences, and concerts in its facilities. The three floors exude the most varied artistic expressions —so, the journey should start early so that you can get amazed at the available samples. The hidden gem of PROA, located in the heart of the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca, is the café on the top floor. The height enables incredible views of the river, boats, and the colourful houses that decorate the entire area. Golden hues are added to that, resulting in a film-like frame.

Figueroa Alcorta Bridge

We have already warned you that the capital has everything covered. So, this choice is not random at all: a bridge where you can witness a magical sunset. But not any bridge, it is the Figueroa Alcorta Bridge, a classic pedestrian crossing that fuses the Avenue bearing the same name with the School of Law’s impressive facade. From the walkway, you can see the breadth of spaces typical of Buenos Aires, with landscapes that range from iconic buildings (such as the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes museum) to the green groves of Francia square. From the distance, on the same side as the School, you can also see another typical monument: the Floralis Generica, a six-petal metal sculpture that looks up at the sky and also witnesses the spectacle of colours unfolding as the sun goes down. The effects of the rays hiding from this point are surreal. And, when the night eventually falls, the buildings’ lights turn on, putting on another show worth seeing.

City Rooftops

A drink in hand in the heights of Buenos Aires? There are thousands of terraces open to the public that welcome guests with gourmet cuisine, signature cocktails, and the shades of pink from heaven. The rooftop phenomenon is a trend, and Buenos Aires knows it. Precisely for that, when the night falls, it shows off its superb domes in strategic locations, allowing you to absorb the urban potential of the city of asado. All the alternatives are great and are scattered everywhere: Puerto Madero, Palermo, Recoleta, and the city centre. You can’t miss the Trade Sky Bar, recognised as one of the world’s best rooftops by the British magazine Time Out. There, you’ll have the perfect photo that every tourist needs on their camera roll.

Galileo Galilei Planetarium

A must in Palermo connecting the city with outer space. This astronomical outreach centre has a unique projection room with reclining seats pointing to the massive 20-metre-diameter dome that gets packed with stars and constellations during the shows. The building was declared a Historical and Cultural Heritage Site of the City, and it is located in Tres de Febrero park. The sunset rests peacefully behind the Planetarium round structure, which has a double function: it blends in with the orange hues and it slowly leaves the colours behind to welcome the night, turning on its thousands of lights.
