National Wine Day – a toast to all Argentina’s wine-producing provinces

Chubut - Córdoba - Buenos Aires - Tierra del Fuego - Santa Cruz - San Juan - Río Negro - Neuquén - Mendoza - La Rioja - La Pampa - Jujuy

Every 24 November we celebrate National Wine Day, in tribute to the cultural, heritage and economic value that wine holds in Argentina’s identity. It is also an excellent opportunity for travelers to discover the richness of our wine regions and enjoy unique wine tourism experiences across the country.

A country of vineyards that stretches across the entire territory

Argentina produces wine in all of its regions – Northwest, Cuyo, Patagonia, Litoral, Córdoba and Buenos Aires – making Argentine wine a truly authentic expression of territory. The provinces with the largest wine production are Mendoza, San Juan, La Rioja, Salta, Catamarca, Neuquén and Río Negro, followed by Córdoba, Jujuy, Entre Ríos, Tucumán, Chubut, La Pampa, Santiago del Estero, Santa Fe and San Luis. But the story of Argentine wine does not end here, as new territories continue to be explored and tested.

Each province offers a distinct identity, shaped by its climate, soil, altitude, latitude and local traditions.

Iconic grape varieties that reflect identity

Malbec, a grape originally from the southwest of France, has become our flagship and ambassador variety thanks to its remarkable adaptation to diverse Argentine terroirs. Among white grapes, Torrontés stands out as our local “white queen”, reaching its maximum expression in Northwest Argentina. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Bonarda, Cabernet Franc and less widely planted varieties such as Merlot further enrich and diversify the national landscape.

This diversity turns Argentine wine into an authentic expression of its territory and a perfect reason to travel and taste. Ultimately, travelers who tour wine-producing Argentina will find not only vineyards, but also a palette of flavors and landscapes, with varied geography, climates and altitudes that make each wine unique.
