MAAL Wines
Located in Las Compuertas, MAAL Wines stands out as a one‑of‑a‑kind winery: it produces exclusively Malbec with character and authenticity, in a sustainable, creative space that blends informal gastronomy, art, and Mendoza terroir.
MAAL —short for Malbec As Alfredo Likes— was born in 2010 as a project between friends: Alfredo Merlo, a winemaker, and Matías Fraga, an entrepreneur. It started with a simple but powerful idea: to make only Malbecs with soul, from their own vineyards and with full creative freedom. The first wine was produced in an abandoned vineyard in the Uco Valley, using borrowed equipment and a lot of hands-on effort. That casual beginning became part of the brand’s DNA—producing honest, unpretentious wines with real character.
Today, the winery is located in Las Compuertas, Luján de Cuyo, surrounded by old vines and panoramic views of the Andes. The building itself is made entirely from recycled materials—shipping containers, metal sheets, reclaimed wood—aligned with a sustainable philosophy that runs through the entire project. Its bold, artistic, and urban aesthetic is visible in everything: the labels, the space, and the way guests are welcomed.
MAAL exclusively produces Malbec in different expressions, styles, and aging methods. Wines like Biutiful, Biolento, Imposible, Ambiguo, and Rebelión reflect their intention to do things their own way, without following traditional rules. Over time, the project has expanded to include wine tourism and culinary offerings that also break conventions—but always with a relaxed, authentic, and personal approach.
