Geographic location: city of Salta, capital of the namesake province, and San Lorenzo, located 12 km away from the city.

How to get there: By plane, to Salta’s International Airport, Martín Miguel de Güemes. By car, via Ruta Nacional 9 which is the main access route. There are also different bus lines that get to the city of Salta and local buses which go to Villa San Lorenzo from the bus terminal in Salta.

Altitude: 1,187 meters above sea level (City of Salta) and 1,340 meters above sea level (Villa San Lorenzo).

Climate: Sub-tropical with dry season (from June to September) and heavy rainfall between December and February.

Recommended length of stay: 3 to 6 days.

What to do: In the city of Salta, tour the Historical Center and visit the Cathedral, the Cabildo and the Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña (MAAM). Climb up the top of San Bernardo Mountain to have a nice view of the valley. At night, enjoy a folk peña on Balcarce Street. In San Lorenzo, go trekking and horseback-riding, watch the green of the yungas, taste the local food and visit the craft market.

Tips: Taste empanadas salteñas, tamales and humita en chala. In winter, enjoy locro and carbonada.
