Patagonia - Neuquén

The most southern region in Argentina and in the continent is not an exception when it comes to grapes. On the contrary, it is becoming one of the most promissory zones for the elaboration of finest wines, mainly Pinot Noir and Merlot, with its productive oasis surrounding Parallel 39° South (Neuquén and Río Negro)

Neuquén is one of the youngest wine producing regions in the country, but also one of the most promissory. The characteristics of soil and weather are quite different from those of the other productive regions: starting from the altitude which does not surpass 300 meters above sea level.

Low humidity, soils quality and thermal amplitude of more than 20° C are the right combination for the production of fruits with good concentration and excellent organoleptic characteristics. Wines -mostly Merlot, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc- have very good quality, remarkable acidity and excellent color, perfectly suitable for long storage in bottles.

This new wine region is concentrated in the cities of San Patricio del Chañar and Añelo, about 70 kms distant from the capital city. Wineries in this region are modern, with vanguard designs and equipped with the latest technology.

As the other Patagonia provinces, Neuquén has countless touristic attractions. The wine producing region is surrounded by pre-historical fields, with plenty dinosaur fossils.  Thus, the wineries circuit is known as the route of “wines and dinosaurs”.
