At 50° South latitude, the continent’s last border. Here ends the great Panamerican Route that connects Tierra del Fuego with Alaska. Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world: the entrance door to the Antarctica. At the bottom of the fjord and protected from Magellan’s fury, its lights illuminate the Southern mountain landscape. Brave, young and obstinate, Ushuaia is proud of its streets that at sunset get full of live, electronics and outdoor stores offering irresistible prices; book stores to jump into fantastic worlds; cozy bars and sophisticated restaurants.
When the mist rises, the quiet waters of the Beagle Channel reflect dark mountains with their forests and white snow-covered peaks. Sea lions lie on the sun and, further, penguins prepare their nests. Very close, at the first farm of the world’s end, travelers can meet pioneers.
On board of the World’s End Train, the whistle sounds in the middle of the steppe. Tierra del Fuego acquires a new dimension: the human efforts. The sun rises and the forest wakes up. A park of lengas and ñires, beautiful lakes where swans rest peacefully.
In winter, the excellent snow invades the landscape and invites to play. Apart from the imposing ski center, in magnificent conditiond the whole season, recreational offers include rides on sleds pulled by huskies, snowmobile and snowshoe walks to enjoy the white season without limits.
During summer, Tierra del Fuego National Park invites to explore its beautiful natural sites, among lakes, peats and forests. There are other proposals like 4x4 tours, kayak navigation to look for sea lions, navigation through the Beagle Channel in comfortable catamarans surrounded by penguins and to admire the magnificence of the landscape from helicopters. Overflying the mountain range permits to observe the greatness of the land, wild and evocative. Downstream, at hidden rivers, the elusive trout swims and jumps. Fishing fans shall find here one of the most exclusive destinations in the world.
A nature as beautiful as captivating, dense and thick in summer, white in winter but always motivating the pioneer’s adventurer spirit. Every traveler should look for a new stamp in his/her passport: the seal of the world’s end.
