Ice, forest and plateau. Patagonia at its purest state. From the Andes covered in millenary ice come down these giant glaciers. Vertical walls with deep strips in thousand blue shades fall into the blue water. Capricious form icebergs silently slide by the quiet lake waters. Milky rivers and turquoise blue lagoons contrast with the intense ochre of the plateau. In the horizon, the Fitz Roy and Torre mounts appear with their eternal snows.
From the mythical Route N° 40, it is possible to observe elusive guanacos and choiques, while condors cross the skies looking for food at the immense extension of Patagonian estancias, lands of horses and the famous Patagonian lamb, of obstinate pioneers and constant struggles against an inclement environment. A tough but infinitely beautiful landscape. Immensity finds at the Patagonian deepness its actual dimension. A landscape that captivates the traveler’s soul forever.
El Calafate’s airport operates with Aerolíneas Argentinas and LADE. The airport has regular flights to/from Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Trelew and Comodoro Rivadavia.
To reach El Calafate by road, drivers can follow Route N° 5 from Río Gallegos or Route N° 40, from the North, crossing El Chaltén.
