Cuyo - San Juan
San Juanwas historically a province devoted to the production of table wines, but in the last ten years, the situation has started to revert and the wine industry is becoming fully oriented towards the elaboration of fine and high quality wines.
The possibilities provided by the soil, the weather and the recently installed technology are many. That is the reason why nowadays there are highly technified wineries at the different productive oasis, where internationally recognized wines are elaborated.Syrah wines are among the most remarkable, however there are also Bonarda, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Grey Pinot, San Juan's Torrontes, Tannat and Malbec.
The charming wine regions are pretty close to the capital city of San Juan: facing the North, the South, the East and the West. Each winery has its own identity and profile, some are family-owned, others are industrial; there are organic vineyards, new projects of boutique wines and the traditional ones. Some sparkling wine wineries are also part of this wine circuit; among them there is one that is placed literally in the heart of the mountain. There are only three wineries in the world with this characteristic.
San Juanfeatures the Santiago Graffigna Museum, property of the winery with the same name, which shows the story of one of the pioneer families in the Argentine wine culture and it is the live sample of this revealing past of our tradition. History may be easily combined with the other charms of the province, with wine spas or with the tracks left by dinosaurs.
The magnificence of San Juan is internationally acknowledged by the Moon Valley (Ischigualastro Provincial Park), Patrimony of Mankind together with the Talampaya National Park of the sister province of La Rioja, two sceneries that form the same natural patrimony of mankind.
