Cueva de las Manos (Cave of the Hands)
The Cave lies in the Valley of the Pinturas River, to the south of Perito Moreno town, featuring one of the most important archaeological paintings of Patagonia.
More than 9.300 years old, these caves are spread over the valley. The images of hands are often negative. Besides these images, there are also depictions of human beings, hunting scenes, geometric symbols, snakes and other pictures related to fertility, rituals and animal footprints.
The images of hands are not painted on the walls, but on the upper rocks, suggesting that hunters must have placed their hands on the cave ceilings and then covered them with paint.
