Nautics (The art of navigation)
At the Punilla Valley, sailboat navigation is practiced at the San Roque Lake, very close to Villa Carlos Paz, and at the dams of La Falda and El Cajón. At the Paravachasca Valley, navigation is possible at Los Molinos Reservoir - close to Alta Gracia - and at the Calamuchita Valley, at the Río Tercero Reservoir. Also, at the Medina Allende Reservoir (La Viña Dam) and Cruz del Eje Reservoir.
Crossing the Río de la Plata constitutes one of the major sportive challenges for sailboats. On weekends, the moorings of the Uruguayan ports are full of Argentine navigators. That is the situation at Barra de San Juan, Carmelo, Colonia de Sacramento and Punta del Este. The rare deepness, the oceanic tides and the strong winds like the Sudestada (strong wind coming from the south-east) or the Pampero (strong wind coming from the west) turn navigation into a great adventure.
From Ushuaia, the route to the East finishes at the De Los Estados Island, the other brave strait of the sea, with bays that witnessed many shipwrecks in the past.
